Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science is a full time four-year (8 semesters long) program

The complete Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science programme consists of two parts: a one (1) year general studies section followed by three (3) years of clinical sciences and a Nutrition and Food Science programme. 

• The Department of Nutrition and Food Science strives to prepare students for careers in health care, public health, and community nutrition sectors, the dynamic and global food industry, food safety and regulatory compliance, academia, and research.
• A graduate of nutrition and food science can take up opportunities in nutrition or food science. Nutrition concentration prepares students to apply their knowledge of nutrition to promote healthy eating patterns in the population.
• Graduates can work in many areas including clinical and community nutrition, nutrition counselling, nutrition education and research, wellness, government policy, public health, and food service management. Opportunities in food science include food safety and regulatory compliance, food quality control, halal certification and standardization, food product development, production management, ingredient management, research, and teaching. The course also prepares students for graduate study with specializations in clinical nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition science, applied human nutrition or food microbiology, food biotechnology, food chemistry, food engineering and food biotechnology for those who would prefer food science specialization.

• Somali secondary/high school leaving certificate, or its equivalents from a recognized secondary/high school.
