Community Outreach

The students from the Nutrition and Food Science department organized a screening event at Garowe Prison. The purpose of this initiative was to provide health assessments and support to the prisoners. During the screening, the students conducted various evaluations to ensure the well-being of the prisoners.

The students from the Social Work and Social Administration department organized an event to distribute Iftar meals to families displaced by the conflict or natural disasters, known as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The purpose of this was to provide support and cohesion to these vulnerable communities during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Director and a group of Health Science students provided in a medical outreach program in a rural villages, to provide healthcare services to underserved communities, they conducted a prescription medication and offering health guidance for patients in need.

Public health students conducted a cholera awareness campaign in IDP camps. Recognizing the vulnerability of IDP populations to cholera outbreaks due to overcrowded living conditions and limited access to clean water and sanitation facilities, the students aimed to educate and empower the camp residents to prevent and manage cholera effectively.

 

The University of Bosaso Garowe organized a career guidance program for the secondary school students who were preparing for their centralized final examination. Recognizing the importance of providing guidance and support during this crucial phase of their education, the university aimed to assist the students in making informed decisions about their future career paths.

 

The Nutrition and Food Science department conducted a nutrition screening program for Garowe primary schools. The department designed to assess the nutritional status of the students and provide guidance on the importance of consuming a balanced diet for their overall health and well being. Under the supervision of faculty professionals, the nutrition screening involved various assessments to evaluate the students’ nutritional needs and identify any potential deficiencies or imbalances, and dietary surveys were conducted to gather information about their eating habits and preferences.

A great event organized by the University of Bosaso Garowe, called Tusmayn Iyo Talawadag, to be aimed at providing advice and guidance to the newly graduated secondary students. It’s wonderful responsibility which UOBG is taking an active role in supporting and motivating young graduates.

At the end of the session, the university management decided to offer scholarships to the students through a lottery. This is an exciting opportunity for the students as it provides them with financial assistance to pursue their higher education. Scholarships can make a significant difference in a student’s academic journey by easing the financial burden and opening up more opportunities for their future.

The University of Bosaso Garowe has contributed cement to the construction of the Mire Aware Stadium, it demonstrates their support for local infrastructure development and community initiatives. The donation of cement can be a valuable contribution towards the construction process, as it is a fundamental building material. By providing cement, the university is playing a role in the advancement of sports facilities and promoting community engagement through the stadium. Such contributions can have a positive impact on the overall development of the region, fostering a sense of pride and offering a venue for sporting events, social gatherings, and other activities.
